The Leeds High School Girl's Golf team came in the spotlight yesterday at the St. Clair County Tournament. Freshman Savannah Payne took the top honors with a low score of 94.
Payne defeated opponents from Moody and Pell City with her low score to win the tournament. Payne told the Leeds Herald it was not her best game but she is happy with the win. Payne has been playing in competition for two years and comes from a family that enjoys the game of golf and she looks forward to her years to come playing at Leeds High School. Payne is the lone player for the girls team, coached by Brent Reese. On the Leeds High Boys side of golf, junior Kyle Mann placed 38th out of a field that included Moody, St. Clair, Springville, Pell City, Victory Christian and others. The boys team has three players this year with Mann, Jessie Turner, and Josh Kilpatrick. The boys team is coached by Keith Etheredge who told the Herald he hope the participation in the program grows each year.
