HUNTSVILLE, AL - Two Leeds wrestlers took first place in their weight category at the state wrestling tournament, held at Huntville's Von Braun Center last Saturday. Alex Nickell defeated Weaver's Christian Cortez in a 4-2 decision to win the 103lb weight class in class 1A-4A wrestling. Brian Shockley defeated Hunter Edwards of Dora in a unanimous 7-0 decision to win the 152lb weight class. Zac Willis also took third place in the 119lb class, pinning Matt Murray of St. James.

Leeds was ranked 9th out of 25 at the end of the tournament. Congratulations and roll Greenwave!

Six Leeds wrestlers placed at the 1A-4A sectionals last Friday and Saturday, earning an opportunity to wrestle for a state title in Huntsville February 18-19. The wrestlers who placed were:

Alex Nickell (7th grade): 1st place, 103lbs
Tadarryll Marshall (7th grade): 3rd place, 112lbs.
Zac Willis (Junior): 3rd place, 119lbs.
Taylor Simmons (Freshman): 4th place, 130lbs.
Tanner Hunter (Junior): 4th place, 145lbs.
Brian Shockley (Junior): 1st place, 152lbs.

FULTONDALE - The Leeds High Wrestling team under Coach Curtis Lloyd continued to show their dedication to the sport taking 3 of 4 matches in the Fultondale Quad Match Tournament this past Tuesday night and took the top position in the 3A schools at the match.

The Leeds team hits the mats tonight at home against Minor High School starting at 5:30 PM.
